The Principal of Government Technical college, Abak in Akwa Ibom state Mr Friday Udoaka has apologized to the NYSC for flogging a female corp member named Olaitan Adeola Kolawole who is serving in his school.
According to the principal, he flogged Olaitan because she wrote her friend and fellow corp member’s name in the school attendance register without the latter being present in school. Udoaka was said to have dragged Olaitan outside of the school and disgraced her in front of the students.
The matter somehow got to Victor Inoika, the Commissioner for education in Akwa Ibom and authorities of the NYSC state secretariat in Uyo who immediately called for a reconciliation meeting.
Mr Udoaka was then made to apologize to Kolawole saying:
“No man is perfect, I have not beaten a corps member before. I am very sorry for using a cane on a corper. Adeola, I am very sorry for what happened. When I went back home, I felt bad for beating a woman. It is not true that I dragged the corper out of my office and flogged her before the students.
This is a man that behaves like a father, but I don’t know what happened that I behaved rudely with you. Please forgive me. The mistake will not repeat itself. Whatever is the cost of your treatment, I will bear the cost,”
Reacting to the apology, Kolawole said:
“For an elder to apologize for his mistake, I forgive him. I accept his apology.
My parents wanted to take up the matter, but I will talk to them not to pursue the case as they wanted”.
Kolawole was then awarded a donation of N50,000 for Inoika for the injustice she received in the hands of the school principal.
