Learning to speak in public not only improves your self confidence, it also helps you overcome fear of rejection. When you are able to speak confidently, you can engage stakeholder to push for your cause. Not every student can speak with the school authourities or company sponsors for your school events. If you have this skill, your fellow students and even members of the larger society will respect you more and guess what this prepares you for? Leadership!
CV writing skills
You need to know how to put together a basic CV or resume as a student. This is because at one point or the other, you will find yourself applying for jobs. Having a good CV is the first step towards getting the job of your dreams and having CV writing skills means you can provide the service for fellow students and charge them a fee. Start learning how to write a CV today.
This is one of the most important skills you will ever need in life whether as a student or not. From my experience, sales people are usually rich. Knowing how to sell means you will never go broke in life. To get this skill, you can start a small side hustle right from school selling various produts and services to your fellow students. Better yet, apply for internship or industrial attachment (IT) in an organization with a sales role. That way you can be mentored and develop your sales skill on the job. (Take this skill very seriously).
Personal branding skills
What do you want to be known for? A popular saying goes: ‘Dress the way you want to be addressed’ – I can never agree more. What do you want to be in the future? A doctor? A lawyer? An enginner? A scientist? Begin to groom yourself from now to become what you would like to become. Speak, act, dress like you want to be. The most important thing is creating your own unique style while grooming yourself to beome who you want to be. Your brand is that quality that stands you out from every other person. What do you want to be known for?
Volunteering is one of the guaranteed ways to gain experience and build your personal network. I see some students running away from volunteer oppurtunities. They’re doing themselves more harm than good. I’ll advice you take on volunteer oppurtunities that are in line with your career goals and oppurtunities. In the long run, the benefits of volunteering far outweighs the seeming immediate comfort of not taking up the oppurtunity.
People Networking Skills
If you apply all of the above mentioned skills to your life, your people networking skills will eventually improve. People are your greatest assets and you should learn to connect with people and cultivate your relationship with them because you never know when you may need them.
